YOUR GEELONG PODIATRISTS TALK ABOUT SCHOOL SHOES

January 17, 2019

Get ready for back to school with our Geelong podiatrists tips on the right school shoes for your child.  Your children’s feet will spend most of their growth period in school shoes with their feet always on the move; standing, running, jumping, skipping, walking and sitting.  Buying shoes that support your child’s feet should be priority and seeking out sound advice in regards to the correct fitting of school shoes is important.

When purchasing school shoes, avoid shoes made from synthetic materials as children’s feet perspire and need to be able to breathe.  Make sure there is 1cm growing room between the end of the shoe and their longest toe.  Shoes should fit comfortably around the heel and not be too loose or too tight.  Ideally, have school shoes fitted at a store that offers trained staff to ensure the correct fit and shape to accommodate little feet.

If you are unsure about the fit of your children’s school shoes a podiatrist can help ensure the shoes fit correctly.  Our Geelong podiatrists will measure your children’s feet for length and width and assess the shoe fits the natural shape of the foot, especially around the toes.  Our Geelong podiatrists will also assess any uneven shoe wear, rashes, hard skin, lumps or bumps on your children’s feet.  If you have any concerns with your children’s feet, our Geelong podiatrists are here to help.  Contact us on 52 430130.
