Heel pain Geelong

March 24, 2023

Heel pain can have several different causes, but some of the most common ones are plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, Achilles tendonitis, and stress fractures.

Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain, and it occurs when the plantar fascia, which is a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot, becomes inflamed and thickened. This can happen due to an increase in load from overuse or repetitive strain.

Heel spurs are bony growths that can develop under the heel bone (calcaneous) when the plantar fascia pulls away from the bone, caused by strain on the fascia and intrinsic muscles in the foot.

Achilles tendonitis is an inflammation of the Achilles tendon, which connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. This can occur from overuse, unsupportive footwear and poor biomechanics.

Stress fractures are small cracks in the bone that can occur from overuse or repetitive strain, and they are more likely to occur in athletes or people who engage in high-impact activities.

If you are experiencing heel pain, it is important to see a podiatrist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Our Geelong podiatrists are available to assess and provide advice for your heel pain Monday to Friday.  Call 52430130 to make an appointment.
