Our Geelong podiatrists talk about National Diabetes Week 2020
July 15, 2020This National Diabetes Week theme is heads up diabetes, focusing on the impact of mental and emotional health for people with diabetes. For those living with diabetes, managing feet on top of everything else can be challenging, especially if diabetes foot related disease is present. Our Geelong podiatrists provide a few simple and practical tips to take care of your feet and reduce the worry of diabetes foot related problems.
Checking your feet every day is one of the best things you can do to prevent foot problems associated with diabetes. Establish a time for your daily foot routine, either before a shower or before bed. Look for damage such as cuts, sores, splits, blisters, redness, ulcers or callous. Feel your feet and take note of any changes in the feeling of your feet. This may include numbness, tingling and loss of feeling. Be aware of any temperature changes in your feet.
If you have difficulty getting down to see your feet, place a mirror on the floor or ask a carer or family member to check your feet. If you notice any changes, contact us for an appointment to assess and provide up to date podiatry treatment and advice.
